Don Juan Carlos took part in eleven public engagements, a decrease from his usual number. His Majesty received the General Council of the Official Associations of Social Workers in Spain in audience, appointed a new Attorney General, met with the President of Peru and hosted a dinner in his honor at the Royal Palace, received the Credentials of six new ambassadors, presided over the Pascua Militar and hosted with the Queen the traditional reception for the Diplomatic Corps in Spain. King Juan Carlos also met with France’s president Sarkozy before the ceremony at the Royal Palace in which His Majesty granted the Order of the Golden Fleece onto him. After the ceremony there was a luncheon in the new Knights’s honor. Don Juan Carlos had another public engagement in January, the closing of the Exceltur tourism forum.

In January doña Letizia took part in eleven public engagements, including a day long trip to the island of El Hierro and a working meeting with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, of which Her Royal Highness is the honorary president. Doña Letizia also visited a children’s book fair and held a working meeting. With her husband, the Princess of Asturias opened the international Fitur Fair and the exhibit commemorating Spain’s National Radio 75 anniversary and as senior member of the Royal Family attended the Pascua Militar, the Foreign Diplomats reception, President Sarkozy’s Golden Fleece ceremony and the dinner in honor of Peru’s president.
Note: Many of the engagements are actually divided in two or more engagements, but the Royal Household considers them one and it is difficult and time consuming to break them down in individual events. For example, the Royal Household considers trips or incoming visits as one engagement, no matter how many days and individual engagements there are involved.
