CONFERENCE IN PARIS

September 15, Paris

Last week, Their Royal Highnesses travelled to Paris for the opening of the VIIth International Congress of Victims of Terrorism. The Prince of Asturias has attended all the previous Congresses of Victims of Terrorism and opened the first one that took place in Madrid in 2004. Since their marriage, Princess Letizia has attended all the Congresses with the Prince in Bogotá, Valencia(Spain), Madrid, Medellín(Colombia), Salamanca(Spain) and Paris.

September 16, Madrid

The next day, back in Madrid, the Prince and Princess officially closed the Ist International Congress on Ethics and Tourism taking place in Madrid. Focus on Travel News describes the Congress thus:

Organized by UNWTO and the Spanish General Secretariat of Tourism and Domestic Trade, the Congress has brought together over 450 tourism officials, business leaders, international organizations and experts in the field of ethics and tourism to debate how to guarantee a truly responsible and sustainable tourism sector. The two-day meeting will address questions of gender equality, tourism’s role in poverty reduction, sustainable tourism practices in both the public and private sector, and codes of ethical conduct

2011 EUROPEAN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LITHUANIA

Two days later, Felipe travelled to Lithuania to witness the Spanish basketball team win their second straight European Championship. Before the match, His Royal Highness met with the President of Lithuania with whom he discussed the EU economic situation among other topics.

AUDIENCES IN MADRID

September 19, Madrid

The Prince and Princess of Asturias started the week on Monday with audiences at the Palace of La Zarzuela. Prince Felipe had two audiences, with the Organising Committee of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and with the presidents of the companies promoting the Forética Association. He was with his wife for the third audience of the morning, this time with the Lealtad Foundation. The aim of the Foundation, founded in 2001, is to foster confidence in the NGOs for an increase of donations or any other kind of collaboration. The Lealtad Foundation provides information to private persons and companies alike and helps them track their donations.

DELIVERY OF AWARD IN MADRID

September 22, Madrid

Today Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias had lunch at the Palace of the Senate after delivering the Luis Carandell journalism award for Parliamentary Journalism. After entering the Palace, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia delivered the award to veteran journalist Iñaki Gabilondo. Don Felipe gave a speech defending freedom of speech and journalism.
